Here's What We Know About Advanced NYS Regents Diplomas


We receive a lot of questions about the different types of New York State High School Diplomas. According to New York State Education Department (NYSED.gov), high school students in New York can graduate with diplomas of various distinctions.

To earn a standard Regents Diploma, students must receive a score of 65 or better on the following Regents exams:

  • English
  • Math (Any one)
  • Global History
  • U.S. History
  • Science (Any one)
  • Language other than English

To earn a Regents Diploma with Advanced Designation - students must receive a score of 65 or better  on the following Regents exams:

  • English
  • Math (All three)
  • Global History
  • US History
  • Science (One physical and one life science)
  • Language other than English

There are additional designations available as well -

With Honors

Students can earn a "with honors" designation added to either Regents Diploma option for an average score of 90 or more on all required Regents exams.

Technical Endorsement

Students enrolled in an approved school district or BOCES career and technical education (CTE) program who successfully complete all requirements earn a technical endorsement to be affixed to their high school diplomas.
